YES, they made it! To start the Chinese New Year of the Rat (which traditionally brings
success in your endeavours) on a high note, two members of our Dragon Boat Family completed
their row across the Atlantic Ocean on 16 February 2008, in 76 days, 11 hours and 12 minutes
and in so doing are also well on the way to their target of USD 200,000 for Breast Cancer Care,
with nearly USD 140,000 raised on the high seas.

In giving his bi annual report to the Members Congress, the IDBF Executive President, Mike
Haslam, summarised the happenings of the past two years and put forward, the IDBF Council’s
development plans for next 4 years plus a statement of intent on behalf of the IDBF Members.

The IDBF Congress in Penrith accepted a second proposal from the BDA, that the qualifying
date for each Senior Racing Class category should be the 1st June in any given year and not
the 1st January, as it presently is.

In accepting a proposal from the British Dragon Boat Racing Association (BDA) the IDBF
Members Congress approve the introduction of a World Championships for those
paddlers who are over 17 but Under 23.

The Congress unanimously approved the Council recommendations that Paul HENDERSON
(Canada) and Manfred RUSS (Germany) be accorded Honorary Membership for their
outstanding service to Dragon Boat Sport. Paul was made an Honorary Life Member and
Manfred becomes an IDBF Honorary Vice President.

Against strong opposition from Amsterdam, Macau China, won the right to host the 2010
Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) by a majority vote of 16 to 6 at the IDBF Members
Congress held in Penrith, Sydney on 21 September 2007.
