Macau and Tampa win the bids to host World Championships in 2010 and 2011 but Moscow not yet confirmed for 2009!
1 October 2007 - Against strong opposition from Amsterdam, Macau China, won the right to host the 2010 Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) by a majority vote of 16 to 6 at the IDBF Members Congress held in Penrith, Sydney on 21 September 2007.
Tampa Bay, Florida, USA, was awarded the hosting rights by the Congress, for the 2011 World Dragon Boat Racing Championships (WDBRC) but the IDBF Members did not confirm Moscow as the host City for the 2009 WDBRC.
A report from Victor Kisselev, President of the Russian Dragon Boat Federation (RDBF) told Congress that the Moscow City Authorities have yet to sign up to any organisational or financial support for the event. On the recommendation of the IDBF Council the Congress voted for additional bids to be accepted from the IDBF Members.
These are to be submitted to the Council by the 2 Nov 07, after which time a final decision on the 2009 WDBRC will be made. This decision, effectively gives Moscow a further 5 weeks to confirm its support in real terms or loose the Championship rights.
Although Moscow was not confirmed Miami was accepted by Congress as the venue for the 2009 World Corporate & Community Championship (WCorcom).
The Breast Cancer Survivors Commission also announced that the next BCS World Champs would be held in conjunction with the 2009 Wcorcom, bringing at least 1000 paddlers to the ‘weekend warriors’ dragon boat party in Miami.
The next World Championships Regatta will actually be the 2008 CCWC in Penang, Malaysia, scheduled for 1-3 August 08. The Penang Organising Committee in presenting its report to the Congress projected a record entry target of 150 crews and around 4500 participants. Information Bulletin No 1 will be out shortly, with Provisional Entries required by 1 January 2008. With a low Regatta Fee of only USD 10.00, per head, things are looking good for Penang 2008.
