Dragon Boat On The Artery of Budapest
The Hungarian Dragon Boat Federation organized a dragon boat competition on 6th of May 2017 as part of the 5th Danube Regatta of Budapest.
19 universities sent crews to the exciting dragon boat race, on the fast-flowing Danube, in the heart of Budapest. The novice crews went through a few weeks training to be prepared for the great university festival and fight for the cup. The race, despite the high-water was safe and the smile and enthusiasm of the young paddlers remained even after the long race in difficult conditions.
Spectators from the shore enjoyed 2 close heats and a spectacular grand final race. The popularity of the dragon boat race was even more visible during the ceremony, when it was hardly possible to get close to the stage for the medal presentation due to the large crowd cheering the crews.
Medals and the trophy were presented amid standing ovation by the President of IDBF, Mr Mike Thomas and President of Hungarian Dragon Boat Federation Mr Peter Jarosi to:
1st Place: Testnevelési Egyetem (University of Physical Education, Budapest)
2nd Place: Széchenyi István Egyetem (Széchenyi István University, Győr)
3rd Place: Budapesti Gazdasági Egyetem (Budapest Business School)
